Our Year Two teacher is Miss Craker.
Year Two is a fun packed year with lots of exciting topics to explore. The Advent term bursts into action with 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets'. We become young historians by researching the history of castles, tunnels and bridges and also develop our STEM skills by designing, creating and evaluating a range of structures. Throughout the year, we embark on educational visits to take our learning beyond the classroom, with our first trip being to Warwick Castle.
Our topic during the second half of the Advent term is 'Bounce'. This enables the children to develop their understanding of the importance of healthy eating and exercise and the children are provided with a wealth of opportunities to develop their scientific thinking as they investigate forces.
As the eldest children in Key Stage One , the children in Year Two take on a range of extra responsibilities, helping to prepare them for the transition to Key Stage Two. Responsibilities include helping with the clearing and setting of the lunch hall, changing their own reading books daily, and assuming main roles in our much-loved Early Years and Key Stage One Production of the Nativity.
We are extremely fortunate to be located at the foot of the Chiltern Hills and subsequently we are keen to utilise our beautiful local area as much as possible. This year, we will be launching 'Branching Out' sessions in Key Stage One. This will involve carefully planned opportunities to explore a range of curriculum areas within our local area, including 'forest school' type activities. Taking the curriculum beyond the classroom and making the most of outdoor learning opportunities benefits the children's learning experiences immensely and helps to deepen their understanding of a range of concepts covered in class.
For our 'Beat that' challenges in mathematics, we work hard on our number bonds, addition and multiplication by 2, 5 and 10 - under timed conditions!
