We seek to provide a rich and engaging curriculum. At its core it is designed to develop solid foundations in English and maths – but there is breadth too, including science, French, RE, computing, history, geography, music and more. These are taught by a combination of class and specialist teachers, through Cornerstones ILPs (imaginative learning projects) as well as discrete lessons.
Each ILP is divided into four distinct stages of learning which actively promote children's learning and thinking.
- Engage - this is a memorable first-hand experience to introduce and inspire the learning within the ILP.
- Develop - this is the main stage of the ILP and is where the children develop their understanding of new differentiated concepts and skills; practise and master new skills; use transferable skills in different subjects and contexts.
- Innovate - in this stage the children apply their skills, knowledge and understanding to real-life imaginary contexts and use their thinking skills to explore possibilities and solve problems.
- Express - in this final stage the children will get an opportunity to perform, present and reflect on their learning. They will share their achievements with their classmates and parents.
Computing is a discrete subject and includes opportunities for coding; it is also integrated across the curriculum. We are engaged in a programme of upgrades from interactive whiteboards to interactive flat panels and as well as the Computer Room we have a bank of tablets that can be deployed wherever needed.
We seek to help the children to develop and celebrate their different gifts and abilities. Everybody has something at which they can excel – even if they have not yet discovered what it is.
