Friends of St Teresa’s (FROST)
It was lovely to welcome past staff and pupils to the FROST drinks evening last Friday. We had some pupils who had left a few years ago visit, who are now studying for GCSEs and A Levels, and they were amazed how small St Teresa’s now looks! We also had past staff and pupils, one who was a pupil at St Teresa’s sixty years ago. Mrs Sparkes has collated old school photographs in nearly twenty albums and all present really enjoyed looking through them and sharing memories.
“Lovely visit tonight, great vibes at St Teresa’s – fond memories of such a happy time when we had children here.”
“I was here in the 1950’s so my memories are few, but I remember being very happy and I was taught by the nuns. There were beautiful gardens with streams.”
The Friends of St Teresa’s School was formed in the 1990s following a suggestion from a past parent, Shelagh Williams, and a member of the staff at the school, Anita Templar. They approached Alma Broom-Smith, one of the joint Head teachers, because many parents and children were so enthusiastic about all they had received during their time at St Teresa’s and wanted to remain in contact with the school and all the friends they had made during their time there.
Gradually the activities organized by the group of ‘Friends’ developed and the pleasure of rekindling old friendships progressed. We are now making this easier by using this web site.
Newsletters are sent out informing members of forthcoming events and these include any news items relating to the School, the staff and both past and present pupils. An annual reunion is organized which gives the opportunity for the ‘Friends’ to meet up with fellow parents, pupils and members of staff.
As children prepare to leave St Teresa’s at the end of Year 6, an invitation is offered to all the children and their families to join the Friends of St Teresa’s. This is done by a ‘once and for all’ payment of £25.
The present committee members are:
Margaret Baker, Sue Bolton, Geraldine Combley, Celia Sparkes, Gill Watson and Shelagh Williams.
Any past parent or member of staff wishing to join the committee please contact the School Office
